INTERVENTIONS
(i) Campaign on RTE-2009: In collaboration with UNICEF, LCHR has organized 80 awareness sessions on RTE–2009 at Rani and Rampur Development Blocks in Kamrup district of Assam. Over 4,500 people were benefited through this campaign on RTE-2009.
(ii) Public Hearing on RTE: The first of its kind in Northeast India, LCHR facilitated “Public Hearing” on Right to Education at Salonah in Nagaon district and at Morigaon in Morigaon district of Assam in collaboration with Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR). At Salonah, 32 written complaints were received by the ASCPCR on various issues in connection with the implementation of RTE-2009 and 12 complaints have taken up in the presence of both the parties. At Morigaon, 151 complaints were received out of which 53 were taken up in the presence of both the parties i.e. the complainant and the respondent.
(iii) School Dropouts: LCHR in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Kamrup organised 2 programmes in June, 2016 to bring back school dropout children in Dimoria and Chandrapur Development Blocks of Kamrup district. The parents were gathered for the programmes and were enlightened on the provisions of right to education of children as provided by the Constitution of India and other legislations of the country.
(iv) Adoption and its Modalities:The rural folks are still ignorant about the laws related to adoption of children. This may pose threat to children’s lives. Keeping the importance of knowing laws related to adoption framed by the Government, LCHR organised 2 literacy sessions on ‘adoption, modalities-thereof’ in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Kamrup in 2 rural areas of Dimoria and Chandrapur Development Blocks in the month of June, 2016.
