Training Para-Legal Personnel in Assam and in Tripura is another ongoing programme that aims at training about 10 energetic young unemployed persons in a year to be bare-foot lawyers in the villages to deal with legal issues at the grass-roots level. Over a period of 1 year, the para-legal personnel undergo training through the workshops and field work. Through constant monitoring and evaluation they have been assisted by experts to take up issues and problems of the people around them. 130 Para-legal personnel who are under training have been doing commendable work in their own villages by approaching concerned authority to settle issues relating to the poor and the ordinary people through negotiations. These para-legal personnel have succeeded to some extent to reduce corruption and accompany ordinary people in their fight for justice.
